of Hua Zhang
Hua
Zhang is an internationally known Chinese artist and educator. He was
born in Kunming, China and graduated from the prestigious Academy of
Fine Arts and Design in Beijing, China in 1982. Following his graduation,
he was appointed the department director and professor of fine arts
and design at Kunming University. In 1994, Mr. Zhang was invited to
lecture in the United States at the University of Maryland. He is presently
residing in the United States.
Mr. Zhang's contemporary paintings are based on the ancient method of
Chinese Heavy Color Painting which emphasize lines and color. His unique
cultural understanding and experience also enhance his paintings. They
reflect his great respect for Chinese history, tradition and the triumphant
human spirit. The artist's style poetically merges archetypal with modern
imagery to create a new art form. His paintings will surely secure recognition
as a master of innovation.
Mr. Zhang is an influential educator and author in the art world and
has many honors to his credit. Collectors of his art include former
President George Bush and Barbara Bush, the Yunnan Provincial Government,
the president of Citibank, the president of Holiday Inns (International)
and Mr. Zhang Guiyi, president of the Chinese Culture Foundation, Tainan,
Taiwan. Besides exhibitions in China, his paintings have been exhibited
in the United States, Austria, Germany, Canada, Australia, Thailand
and Japan.
In 1995, Mr. Zhang moved to the United States and since then he has
visited over thirty states. He has held exhibitions, painted frescoes
and made interior housing designs in several areas including Washington,
Oregon, Washington D. C, Maryland, and California. His artistic insights
have been influenced by his contact with many American artists, people
of various walks of life, and his frequent visits to art galleries,
museums, and libraries. He has researched the traditions and cultures
of the eastern and western worlds including their similarities and differences
as seen through the eyes of an eastern artist. While living in a totally
different cultural environment, Mr. Zhang discovered the common spirit
and goals of mankind.
The GOLDEN GARDEN paintings are derived from the above research. They
are the fruit of Mr. Zhang's lifeloog endeavors.
